Introduction

Our subject is listed in the theme “Power & Societies” and talks about hippies. The hippy culture appeared in the USA at the beginning of the sixties. It is an anti-establishment movement which wants to reform the system values. Some think that “Hippy” comes from the wolof (African language) word “hipi” which means : “open your eyes”. Others think that “hippy” is a pun with “hype” which mean “cool, trendy, relaxed...” Hippies were in favour of peace, love, spirituality, sexual liberty etc... and they changed the music world.
Reading this blog, we will show you how the hippy movement changed our contemporary society. First, we will see why the hippy culture can be considered as a counter-culture. Then, we will see which values and norms are now integrated in our society.
